Arrowverse Star Melissa Benoist Comments On The DC Universe's New Supergirl

Exclusive: Melissa Benoist, who played Supergirl in the Arrowverse, breaks her silence on her successor Milly Alcock landing the role in the DCU.

Melissa Benoist supports all iterations of Supergirl for their significance and what they represent for young women

Milly Alcock's Supergirl will draw inspiration from the Woman of Tomorrow comic by Tom King.

Alcock's reported appearance as Supergirl in Superman hints at a limited role before going on to lead the Woman of Tomorrow movie.

The Arrowverse's Melissa Benoist chimes in on Milly Alcock being tapped as the new Kara Zor-El for the DC Universe in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. James Gunn's DC Universe is on its way, with principal photography having just started on the new Superman movie with David Corenswet. However, Corenswet's Man of Steel will not be the only iconic Kryptonian in the franchise, as his cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl, will also be introduced during Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters."

Screen Rant recently sat down with Benoist for her new Max series, The Girls on The Bus, where she chatted about the upcoming political drama. Nearly two years after finishing her run on The CW, Benoist was asked about what she was excited to see with Alcock's iteration of Supergirl in Gunn's DC Universe. The Arrowverse alum stated the following:

Everything We Know About Milly Alcock's DCU Supergirl

Alcock's take on the Girl of Steel will be heavily influenced by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. In the eight-issue run, the story follows a harsher incarnation of Kara, which will be the same direction for Alcock's character in the DC Universe. King and Evely's comic is also the direct inspiration for the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, which Alcock is set to headline.

However, it has been reported that Alcock's Supergirl debut in the DC Universe is coming before her solo movie. Reportedly, Alcock's Girl of Steel will be in Corenswet's Superman movie, as the actress had gone to Atlanta for her final screen test, which is where they are filming the movie now. Even though Gunn commented in February that he never stated Kara is in Superman, the DC Studios co-CEO also never said she isn't.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said recently that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is casting more characters, so it will likely not be long before they also hire a director for the film. Alcock may also only have a limited role in Superman, in order to then go on to film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow later this year. Hopefully, more updates on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be emerging in the coming weeks and months.
