Alan Ritchson's Ordinary Angels is crushing Madame Web at the box office. Based on a true story, Ordinary Angels focuses on a snow-related disaster in 1994 that saw one ordinary woman help support a father and his sick daughter. The movie stars Ritchson, and it has been pitted against Bob Marley: One Love and the Sony Spider-Man movie Madame Web, which features Dakota Johnson as its titular hero.

Madame Web has been the subject of much consternation, and its box office results have suffered for it. Despite needing approximately $200 million to break even, this weekend saw Ordinary Angels take the third place spot at the box office, while Madame Web fell to fourth. Angels is expected to have $6.5 million on the weekend, while Web should take $5.5 million. Both sit behind first place Bob Marley and second place Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training.

How Is Ordinary Angels Beating Madame Web?

It is certainly a rare occurrence for a drama movie to beat a superhero blockbuster at the box office. The disparity between their budgets is often stark, and superhero movies tend to have a box office draw that true-story drama movies simply do not. Between Ordinary Angels and Madame Web, that trend has flipped. Madame Web suffered a massive second-week drop of 64 percent. Ordinary Angels, meanwhile, benefited from this week being its opener, as it launched to impressive numbers for a relatively low-budget drama

Even setting aside the differences in their release dates, the critical responses have been particularly different. The Ordinary Angels reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, as the movie has secured an 81 percent Tomatometer score and a 99 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. By contrast, the panned Madame Web has a 13 percent Tomatometer score and an audience score of only 56 percent.
